Veronica Alvarez

Veronica Alvarez is the Coordinator of Player Development - Latin America for the A’s (formerly known as the Oakland A's). She manages the A’s international prospect’s development on and off the field at the A’s academy in the Dominican Republic. Her role is to assure that their transition into affiliated baseball in the United States is smooth and successful. Prior to her current role she was a roving catching coach in their minor league system and has been with the A’s since 2019. Aside from working for the A’s, she’s also MLB’s Ambassador for Girls Baseball and the Manager of the USA Baseball’s Women’s National Team. As MLB’s Ambassador she works in conjunction with MLB’s youth development department in the growth of opportunities for girls in baseball. She is the lead Coach at their three camps dedicated to girls baseball and promotes the involvement of girls in sport. She has lead USA Baseball’s Women’s National Team as their manager since 2019, most recently competing in the 2024 WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup where the team won a Silver - medaling for the first time since 2014 and breaking Japan’s 39 game win streak. In her time at the helm, the Women’s National Team has lost only once in Internationally sanctioned events. Veronica leads the red, white and blue with a lot of passion and pride having been a player on the Women’s National Team herself from 2008-2015.

This year Veronica is taking on a new passion as the Co-Founder of Catbird Seat Advisors. Catbird Seat is dedicated to empowering women coaching in men's sports. It facilitates networking, supports professional development, advises women on the sidelines, and consults with the organizations hiring them. Prior to being fully engulfed in the world of baseball and women in sports, Veronica was a Firefighter Paramedic for the City of Hollywood, Florida for almost 8 years. A job she credits for sharpening her leadership skills, ability to stay calm under pressure, and general appreciation for life and people.

Veronica was born and raised in Miami, FL to Cuban immigrants. She is very grateful for her parents, Julio and Ofelia Alvarez, who not only instilled their Cuban values, culture, work ethic, and language in her but also went against cultural norms and allowed their daughter to play baseball. She graduated with a Bachelors in Communications and a minor in Sociology from Villanova University, where she also played four years of Division I Softball. She currently resides in Denver with her wife, Hayley Ennis, who’s an Orthopedic Surgeon for the University of Colorado and their Great Dane, Biggie Smalls.
